🌴 Whisky Point Resort – A Relaxed Beachfront Escape in Pottuvil / Urani, Sri Lanka

Whisky Point Resort is located in Urani Village, about 10 minutes’ drive north of Pottuvil town, and approximately 12 km from Arugam Bay on Sri Lanka’s east coast.
It sits right on Whisky Point beach, in front of the surf break called “Whisky Point”.
The resort offers a tranquil, off-the-beaten-track vibe, away from the busier areas of Arugam Bay, but with surf, nature, and beach access close by.

Rooms / lodging styles include wooden cabanas with balconies or patios (private bathrooms), and “open-air pagodas” with shared bathrooms. All rooms come with ocean views.
Amenities include free WiFi, daily room refresh, fine linens and towels, room service, unlimited drinking water (to reduce plastic), and staff assisting with travel/excursions.
Restaurant & Dining: They have an on-site Italian-inspired restaurant/café, serving pasta, paninis, ravioli, vegetarian & local options, desserts like panna cotta with fresh mango, etc.

From Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo) — about 320 km, 6-7 hours by car. Transfers can be arranged.
From Mattala International Airport — ~170 km, approx 2.5 hours drive.
Also accessible via buses (to Pottuvil), then local transport; train + taxi options exist. The resort helps with organizing pickups.

The resort is in a wildlife territory; you may see monkeys, squirrels, perhaps even crocodiles, insects etc.
Rooms do not have air-conditioning. Instead, there is natural ventilation via sea breeze, fans, open airy design etc.
Linen & towels changed every few days (or on request).
The environment is relaxed; noise is generally low and calm, though there may be occasional loud neighbor gatherings (once a week).
Wet/dry seasons affect weather: there is a drier season and a wet season (Nov-Jan) when showers are more frequent. If you want more sun and stable surf, plan accordingly.

For surfers (beginners and intermediates especially), Whale Point is ideal: surf spots are close, and waves break reasonably near, offering a gentler surf experience when needed.
